Rides Around the Reservoir in Druid Hill Park, 3001 East Drive, Reservoir Area near Columbus Monument

Wednesdays from 5-8PM seasonally May-August         

WEDENSDAY EVENINGs!  The Department of Recreation and Parks is back at the Druid Hill Park reservoir with our big blue bikes ready and waiting for you all to get back in the groove of biking.  This program is perfect for those first timers, those that are out of practice or if you just don’t feel like lugging that old dusty bike out of the basement.  This program is run on a suggested $5 donation and a current driver’s license or MD issued ID card.

Rides Around Hits the TRAIL – various park & trail locations

Every Sunday  from 9 am – Noon  May – August

The Department of Recreation and Parks will be hosting with trained guides, tours of our bike and pedestrian trails.  If you are ready for the next step in biking, please check out our online calendar at www.BCRP.baltimorecity.gov  to see which trail we will ride.  Locations (Gwynns Falls, Jones Falls, and Herring Run) and skill levels will vary.  There is a suggested $10 donation and a current driver’s license or MD issued ID card is required to use department bikes.    You will need to register ahead of time to participate.  Register at molly.gallant@baltimorecity.go=

Moon Light Hikes

We provide a guided hike on the Friday or Sat night closest to the full moon once a month.  These hikes are typically two hours in length and will vary on distances and locations.  Please check the events calendar for upcoming hikes.  www.bcrp.baltimorecity.gov

 

Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park , 4500 Franklintown Road

Join Regular Gentle Walks on Thursdays from 9 AM-10AM in Gwynns Falls/Leakin)Park starting Thursday, January 1.

Meet at Winans Meadow Parking/ Gwynns Falls Trail parking lot at, 4500 N. Franklintown Road, B-Md 21229. We don't walk in the rain or under icy conditions. The walk will go along the Gwynns Falls asphalted trail and hilly woodland trails on our two miles hike. We delight in nature observations and exploration of historic sites along the routes. Routes alter to get to know the various features of the Park and Trail. Besides hiking footwear we recommend the use of a walking stick. Dogs on leash are welcome. At times we carpool from the Winans Meadow parking lot to a different start location.

 

Join us for a 1.5 hour Woodland Hike every Second Sunday of the year in Gwynns Falls/ Leakin Park. No walk in rain or icy conditions. Meet at 1PM at the parking lot at Eagle Drive and Windsor Mil  Rd., B-MD 21207. We explore the history and nature of the park on mostly hilly woodland trails and discover Nature Art in the Park a yearly exhibition of Art projects made from natural materials. This unique exhibit, sponsored by regional artists, uses selected trails as its "gallery" to bring visitors to the park and this evolving art form.   Hiking footwear a must.

From April through November allow time for free model train rides and other family friendly activities between 11AM-3PM,as part of the Second Sunday in the Park event.

Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks and our passionate Park Friends Groups host hikes throughout the city on paved and natural surface trails.  Hikes are a variety of different skill levels from beginners to urban adventures.  Some of our favorite adventures are in Gwynns Falls Leakin Park, Herring Run Park, Druid Hill Park, Stony Run, and Cylburn Arboretum.  Please check the events calendar for upcoming hikes. http://www.meetup.com/Baltimore-Parks-Meetup/

CAMPING

Join us at one of our two sites for the “Great American Campout” night in June at one of our two locations; Gwynns Falls Leakin Park and Herring Run Park.  Pack up your friends and family and your gear.  The Recreation and Parks Department will host fires and marshmallows.   Space is limited RSVP is REQUIRED!   RSVP molly.gallant@baltimorecity.gov
